Peter Rogers

MD. Physician and YouTube educator.

Peter Rogers is a physician who, by his own account, studied at Stanford, earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois and trained in radiology at Northwestern and Harvard. He runs a very large YouTube channel with thousands of videos on nutrition, medicine, study skills and Western history.

Best known for

Long video series on the history of low-fat plant based medicine, from Kempner and Pritikin to McDougall, and the strict Spartan diet he teaches.

Approach

His Spartan diet is starch centred, entirely plant based and very low in fat: no oil, no nuts and no soy, organic food only, and no caffeine or alcohol. He presents the change as all or nothing.

Main talking points

  • Starches belong at the centre of every meal, as McDougall taught.
  • Nuts carry too much fat; he does not eat them.
  • He advises against soy, unlike most experts in this guide.
  • Keep salt very low, building on Kempner's work on blood pressure.
  • He also talks often about environmental exposures such as fluoride and aluminum.
