John McDougall
MD. Physician, founder of the McDougall Program and the starch-based diet (died 2024).
McDougall taught a starch-centred, very-low-fat vegan diet and ran a residential program for decades. His maximum weight loss version removes nuts, seeds, avocado, flour products and soy as well.
Whose words we use: Only his byline, his newsletter and his own voice on video. Unsigned pages on drmcdougall.com are the organization's voice; some of them contradict him.
Evidence behind the weight-loss advice: Case series (short, residential).

AgreesNo added oil of any kind, olive and corn oil included, both in his 1994 weight-loss rules and on video.
